There are more than seven aspects in astrology just as there are more than seven planets. Just as the dual planet rulership scheme is unfolding,
so should the aspects.
There are currently seven astrological aspects based on sign relation: conjunction 0 deg, semi-sextile 30 deg, sextile 60 deg, square 90 deg, trine 120 deg ,
quincunx or inconjunt 150 deg, and opposition 180 deg. All other aspects are purely mathematical and have no place in astrology.
The system is elegant and symetrical but incomplete. Five of the aspects are DUAL in nature making them vague and imprecise. There are TWO kinds of semi-sextile,
TWO kinds of sextile, TWO kinds of square, TWO kinds of trine, and two kinds of quiincunx. Each of these dual aspects contains an upper and lower or dexter and sinister.
This is described and depicted in my other articles on the aspects.
Since we are accustomed to seeing the signs and the natural birth chart as beginning with Aries, Aries represents the conjunction or the 1st house, Taurus and Pisces the
semi-sextile or 2nd and 12th houses respectively, Gemini and Aquarius the sextile or 3rd and 11th houses, Cancer and Capricorn the square or the 4th and 10th houses, Leo and
Sagittarius the trine or the 5th and 9th houses, Virgo and Scorpio the quincunx or the 6th and 8th houses, and Libra the opposition or the 7th house. The diagram
below makes it clear.
![]() In essence, when we resolve the dual aspects, there are actually TWELVE astrological aspects or relationships instead of seven. The Leo or 5th house trine, while similar, is not the same as the Sagittarius or 9th house trine. They are both easy and flowing but with different connotations. The twelve aspects are best evidenced during transits or progressions. A transiting Leo Moon, for example, will be 5th housing a natal Aries Sun or 9th housing a Sagittarian Sun. Both are trines but will be impacted in different ways. The difference is in the signs involved. So the term "housing" should be used when describing a specific aspect as it is more precise. So just as the dual planet rulership scheme is unfolding let's unfold the aspect scheme as well. It will be more precise or specific clearing up the vagueness or duality of the past, something we desperately need in today's more complex and modern world.
