Your Personal, Social, Professional,
and Private Planets

Here is a good way to divide your chart into four main categories, personal, social, professional, and private, and it all depends on your Rising Sign.

Once you know your rising sign for certain, take all the planets compatible to it(those in the same or opposing element) and list them to the left(personal/social).

Next, take all the planets not compatible to your rising sign(those in the other two elements) and list them to the right(professional/private).

Sublist them according to element. The diagram below clarifies this. It is for someone born August 1st, 1991 with a Taurus Ascendant; Sun in Leo, Moon in Aries, Mercury in Virgo, Venus in Virgo, Mars in Virgo, Jupiter in Leo, Saturn in Aquarius, Uranus in Capricorn, Neptune in Capricorn, and Pluto in Scorpio, and MC in Aquarius.

Taurus rising defines this person the most in terms of personality/appearance. If he had a planet in Taurus that planet would be his primary personal expression planet, but he doesn't. Planets trining his Ascendant by sign are the next strongest subjective personal expression influences(those in Virgo and Capricorn). Mercury, Venus, and Mars are this individual's creative(5th house) personal planets while Uranus and Neptune have more to do with his beliefs or outlook on life(9th house). Planets in the opposing element of his ascendant(those in water) will also be expressed personally, but in a more objective or social manner. Here Pluto is in the 7th house characterizing his closest relationships.

In the 2nd column we have planets and signs unable to express openly or personally(not compatible to the Ascendant), so their energies are diverted into business or private matters. Saturn and the MC are this individual's professional planets/or factors charactertizing his tenth house of career. Both the planets and the sign are important but the planet(or factor) takes precedence. I am using the whole sign house system here so that the MC is treated as a planet. If there is no planet in a house, the sign and ruler are looked at. Sun, Moon, Jupiter describe this person's private life, with Sun and Jupiter in the 4th and Moon in the 12th.

In summary, the Ascendant or planets in the same sign(1st house) as your Ascendant will characterize you the most personally, followed by those in trine(5th or 9th house) by sign. Opposition and sextile(7th, 3rd and 11th houses) will also be personal, but in a different way(more conscious) than the conjunction or trine(more subjective). Planets in square, semi-sextile, or quincunx by sign to your Ascendant will work in the background as business/career(10th, 2nd, and 6th houses) or private matters(4th, 8th, 12th houses).
