INXS leader and singer Michael Kelland John Hutchence was born on January 22nd 1960 in the Crows Nest suburb of Sydney Australia, He joined the Farris Brothers band in 1977 which was later renamed INXS (in excess) in 1979. He and friend Andrew Fariss led the band and co wrote most of the songs. The band trudged along in the early 1980's but it wasn't until October 1987 and the release of the album Kick that gained Hutchence and Inxs worlwide popularity.

Kick produced such big hits as New Sensation, the classic Never Tear Us Apart, the raunchy Devil Inside, and their signature hit Need You Tonight. Hutchence' performance in Need You tonight was sexy and provocative and made him a sex symbol. He moved and vibed like Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison, two of his idols. Hutchence was also into poetry and performed in a few films.

The hits Suicide Blonde (inspired by Kylie Minogue) and Dissapear followed in 1990, but it was downhill from there until Hutchence's death in 1997. He dated various women from Michele Bennett(1982-1987) to Kylie Minogue(1989-1991), to Helena Christensen(1991-1995), to Paula Yates(1995-1997).

In August of 1992 in Copenhagen, while with Christensen, Hutchence was assaulted by a taxi driver and fell and fractured his skull, and was never the same since. He lost most of his sense of taste and smell and became more bitter and threatening until the drugs and depression, the custody battles, and sexual excess or deviation led to his early death on the morning of November 22, 1997.

Inxs continued performing without Michael Hutchence until 2012.
