Sedna the New Mini-Planet

Discovered in November of 2003, by Palomar astronomers, it was officially announced on March 15th, 2004.

What's really different about this transplutonian is it's incredible distance. Sedna's highly eliptical orbit is totally outside the kuiper belt at between 8 billion(its closest approach) and 84 billion miles (its farthest approach) away from the Sun or from two to twenty times the distance of Pluto. It is presently at about 90 AU or almost three times the distance of Pluto from the Sun and will reach its perihelion of 76 AU in July of 2076 AD.

Note: While Sedna's orbit has been estimated to have an incredibly long orbital period of some 12,000 years, a current ephemeris of the planet's position suggests a much shorter orbit. This ephemeris shows that Sedna takes some 1825 years to cross half the zodiac from its upcoming perihelion at 6° Cancer to its opposite point(aphelion) also around 6° Capricorn. If we multiply this half period by two we get 3650 yearswhich is practically identical to Sitchin's Nibiru period of 3600 years. Also the Sumerian texts state that Nibiru "becomes Nibiru in the Zodiac of Cancer" which is exactly where Sedna will be at its perihelion(home sign or station) in 2075-76. Even if Sedna is not Planet X, it must be very near to it -perhaps as one of its satelites?.

Sedna's present position around Kuiper belt

The drawback to considering it as a major planet is its size; It is reddish in color and is estimated to be anywhere from 800 to 1,100 miles in diameter making it one of the largest objects beyond Pluto so far. It is presently located near the Pleaides in the Taurus constellation.

What astrological influence, if any, will Sedna(named after the Inuit godess of the sea) have for individuals? This will take months of study by astrologers, some of whom are even heralding it as the tenth planet. But is Sedna really the tenth planet? Or is it the first of a series of bodies originating from the Oort cloud? Time will tell.

There are strong indications that Sedna is linked to the sign of Cancer. Both the myth story behind Sedna (family/sea/victimization)and its zodiacal location at perihelion(early Cancer) seem to indicate this. Sedna is a very ancient and primordial influence, and may indeed turn out to be a legitimate planet.

Sedna has been in the zodiac sign of Aries from the late 1800's to the mid 1960's after which it went into Taurus(mid 1960's to 2023/24 AD). For an ephemeris of Sedna's zodiacal position for the years 1900 to 2036 AD click here. For an abbreviated long-term ephemeris(602 to 2103 AD) click here.
