The dwarf planets are so called because they are smaller than the main planets, yet like Pluto, may hold important significance. Most are located beyond Neptune, except for Ceres which is located in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

Only five dwarf planets have been officially recognized; Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, Eris, and Sedna, yet many more exist. Here are the largest dwarf planets and what they represent in myth and astrology.

Ceres goddess of agriculture, grain, and fertility. Astrology: nurturing

Orcus, another god of the underworld and punisher of broken oaths

Pluto, chief god of the underworld. Astrology: death, regeneration, replication, elitism, big money.

Ixion, god and father of the centaurs. Astrology: betrayal, lust, punishment

Salacia/Amphitrite, goddess of the sea, salt water, and wife of Neptune. Astrology: sensuality, preservation.

Varuna, god of the sea, sky, rain, and moral law. Astrology: divine justice, persuasion.

Haumea, Hawaiian goddess of fertility and childbirth. Astrology: creative power

Quaoar, tribal god of the Mission Indians. Astrology: creative harmony, one's dark side.

Makemake, god of fertility and flight. Astrology: care for nature and the environment

Varda, goddess of light and star placer. Astrology: intuition, hope, and protection

Eris, goddess of strife and discord. Astrology: forced outcome or solution

Sedna, Inuit goddess of the sea and marine animals. Astrolgy: victimization, transformation.
