Response:
Dear Mr.X,
I base my "good and bad" planets on rulership. Every planet is linked to a sign and is most
comfortable and therefore better behaved in that sign, as well as its gender or element.
Rulership is determined through long OBSERVATION of how a planet affects the the personality/behaviour
and/or appearance of individuals. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same level of
perception resulting in variant rulership schemes. Except for Venus/Libra and Mercury/Virgo,
the scheme I present is universally accepted. A planet is "good" when it is comfortably or harmoniously
placed(by sign). Both the planet and the sign must be in harmony. This requires a knowledge of astrological
harmonics. Conversely, a planet is "bad" when it is in a sign very different or "foreign" to its nature.
A planet is badly placed when it is in sign of a conflicting gender or element. It is similar to being in
a country, culture, or language and surrounding alien to your roots -there is bound to be tension and
difficulty. It is impossible to have 100% harmony in life. It's always 50/50. Astrology is no exception.
There will always be good and bad apsects or relationships between planets and individuals and there will
always be good and bad planetary placements due to their movements through the various sectors of the
zodiac. If the planets never moved and were always situated in their home signs then everything would
be perfect and there would be no bad placements, but such is not the case. I realize that the usual way
in astrology to determine whether a planet is good or bad or strong or weak is through the number of good
or bad aspects(by degree) from other planets, but this is a highly myopic view. Every planet can stand on
its own and the principle determinant of its nature is primarily inherent within(its sign placement),
followed by its relationships to other planets(apsects), as well a certain amount of free will or
maturity on the part of its owner. I hope this explains your question.
As to your second question, planetary dispostion also depends on rulership and untill the rulership scheme is fully resolved(which it
isn't) there will always be uncertainties and ambiguities. Dispositorship and/or rulership is a highly disputed and theoretical issue
in astrology. No it is not possible for me to give all of the possible combinations of dispositorship as the list would be too
exhaustive and time-consuming. If you wish, however, you can submit your planetary placements for analysis on this issue.
Yes, it is possible to determine how any one planet can relate to any other one planet based on sign placement alone.
I have been studying this issue for some time and it is very fascinating and will eventually have it on my site. How, for example, does a Venus in Scorpio
relate to a Jupiter in Leo?, and so on. As far as I know, this has not been dealt with in any substantial way in astrology and it's a shame for it offers
much insight, especially in the field of synastry. Its success, however, is largely dependant on a solid knowledge of the rulership scheme. One can
stiil use the traditional dual scheme but it is an ambiguous one(two signs for every planet, except the Sun and Moon). A single rulership scheme(one sign for
every planet) would be much more revealing and interesting. Venus in Scorpio, for example, will always be a most dominating influence over
Sun in Aquarius, who in turn will always be most dominating with Pluto in Taurus, who in turn will be most dominating with Uranus in Leo who in
turn will be most dominating with Venus in Scorpio(it's a circle/cycle). The domination/subordination scheme is based on the sign/element succession on the wheel of
the zodiac and is just one aspect of relationship. In this way, the relationship of every one of the 144 planetary placements to one another can be known. It is an
exhaustive work but one which I will try to include in my site.
As to your last point, all planets(except those in their own signs) are imperfect in some way and subconciously seek to correct this
imperfection through other planets that have the element or quality they should have. Ideally, the Sun should only be in Leo, the Moon in Cancer, etc. -this
would constitute an ideal chart(where every planet is in its home sign). Unfortunately, most of the time, this isn't the case, as the planets are constantly
moving, resulting in less than ideal placements. These "out of home" placements reflect all of our personal imperfections, but is also what makes the world
so diverse and interesting. A planet out of its home sign will always be restless and incomplete and will have a strong longing to find its home again. It's the
same with people. One way in which it can regain some of its roots is via dispositorship which includes mutual reception. This is when one planet has what the other is looking or
longing for. We do this in real life by hooking up with people who can provide a balance or complement to our own deficiencies. Only when we are sexually balanced
and have perfect charts will we stop looking towards others for completion and fulfillment and it's the same with planets. I'm certain there are other ways
to balance the planetary energies but dispositorship is a major one. That is all I can tell you for now. I hope my answers are helpful.
