The new edition(late 2006) features a unique drawing of the hollow earth and its explanation by Rudy Rucker. Book Synopsis In 1836, in Norfolk Virginia, four men, a dog, and three crewman sail aboard a hot air balloon to the antarctic in search of an entrance to the hollow earth. Upon their arrival to the geographic center of the south pole they manage to break into the ice and snow and fall inward towards the Earth's inner central sun or anomaly. Diminishing gravity slows their fall untill they are face to face with the earth's inner sun and the strange creatures and objects about it. Jeremiah, Otha, Eddie, and Arf finally land in a jungle where they meet the "flowerpeople" who use their giant ship-like flowers to ride towards the anomaly. It is on their way to the anomaly that the four main characters meet with the shrigs, the Tekelili, and the Woomoo or Elder Gods. With the help of the Woomoo, and a saucer, they penetrate the anomaly which is Earth's mirror world -and lose twelve years in the process. Two of the characters manage to make it back out and tell their story but are radically transformed by their experience. This book is available at Rudy's Blog or here. Rudy's home page is here |
