The Rising sign or Ascendant in astrology is the worldly or Earthly you -the part of your chart that is being formed and conditioned right NOW and HERE, and the memory or imprint of which you will bring with you from incarnation to incarnation. Earth is one of the twelve schools or classrooms in our solar system universe and we are here to learn and incorporate its particular lessons. We do this astrologically through the Ascendant or Rising sign. There are twelve basic lessons on this planet -one for every Rising sign - and you must learn every one of these lessons - which means at least twelve incarnations here. The root words "rise" and "ascend" are not chosen accidentally. It is our goal to literally raise the vibration of our ascendants or physical selves so that we may truly become solar system beings. In our ascended states we can choose to materialize on any one of the twelve planets in our solar system. On the Sun, for example, we can physicalize our Sun natures so that the Sun sign becomes our Rising sign there, and all of the other planets take a back seat. That is how we originally started on Earth. Our founding ancesters came from other worlds and took on the physicality of this planet, and for awhile they could dephysicalize from it, but eventually they became addicted to the sensuality of it all and became trapped in their bodies. This began the physical birth process and the cyles of reincarnation. Most of us are simply repeating the same error ways which trapped our original ancestors and we accept this as "normal -we indulge the senses, degenerate(grow old) and die. Aging and death occur because we continually abuse our senses. We are an addicted species -addicted to sensorial pleasures -namely food and sex. We have traded our immortality for these pleasures and the only way to regain our immortality is to relinquish those very pleasures. Balance, harmony, detachment, and neutrality are the keys to ascension. The body(and mind) in a balanced or neutralized state can easily achieve ascension. Desire disrupts this balance, especially carnal or lower desires. Eating or is the primary desire which leads to sex, sleep, aging, and finally death. We need to master our bodies and minds through the control of our desires(fasting) and with the help of spirit. Your Rising or Earth sign will show you what you need to master or overcome. Water sign ascendants need to master or control their emotions. Air sign ascendants must learn mental control. Earth sign ascendants need to control their sensual natures and fire sign ascendants need to master their volitional natures. It is fair to say that fire and air sign ascendants have the advantage when it comes to ascending, as they are higher vibrating than earth or water. The other planets can help or hinder this depending on the quality of their own placements. The quickening of our bodies is also the quickening of planet Earth. Human ascension goes hand in hand with planetary ascension and it is a reciprocal relationship. Your body is after all a piece of this earth. The quality of our planet is also the quality of our bodies. If our planet has been tampered with this will reflect in our bodies. Ascension is best achieved when we are at our physical peak, which in our era or epoch is in our twenties or up to age thirty. All or most of the great masters of our era or world epoch ascended around the age of 30. Afterwards, degeneration sets in quickly and it becomes more difficult. In a way, the history of the human body is an encapsulated or miniature history of planet Earth and the solar system as a whole. Planets are born, mature, and age and die as well. While our day lasts 24 hours, the Earth day lasts 24 thousand years. A human lifetime of seventy-two years(26,000 days) equates to 624 million Earth years, and if the Earth is 4.3 billion years old then we should all be living to about 500 years. The twelve two-hour ascending periods in our twenty-four hour day are personalized versions of the twelve great months of Earth's twenty-four thousand great year period, so that someone with Aries rising is a personal summation of the time when Earth was in the Age of Aries. If the Earth through the rising sign rules Libra then we, as trapped physical beings, are expressing Libra's lower or night side(Taurus). Taurus is money and materialism, and this present world is certainly ruled by these. We must rise from this lower material state to our higher or more aesthetic state -or from Taurus to Libra. We must ascend and become like the moving wind which is the symbol for a cardinal air sign. The Earth itself must ideally become less material and more refined. This is why the rising sign or ascendant has so much to do with your physical or sensual nature -because it is mostly expressing its lower or night side. Regeneration or ascension will change all this so that the mind and not the body will be in control. Earth is not a good name for this planet. In fact, it is not a name at all. When humanity and the planet regenerate or ascend, our planet will have a new and fitting name and regain its lost identity or purpose in this solar system. The closest we have now as a name is Terra or Gaia. Astrology links us in a beautiful and very intimate way to the cosmos.
