I have noted while traveling that most cities are condensed versions of the state or country they are in. They summarize or encapsulize the qualities and characteristics of the larger whole so that if one travels across the entire length or width of the city, one is also in effect traveling the entire range of the state or country. This has major implications in locational astrology. If one is not able to travel to a desired area of the country to experience its particular energies according the birth chart, one can achieve a similar result by moving to the corresponding area in the city. Let's take an example:
Canada came to be as a nation on July 1, 1867 comprising chiefly of two cultures -the English and the French. The separation of these two cultures is highlighted on a provincial level by English Ontario and French Quebec and on a city level by western Montreal(English dominated) and eastern Montreal(French-dominated). The border between Ontario and Quebec has its counterpart as St Lawrence street in Montreal which divides the island in two, both numerically and culturally. There is a distinct feeling or mentality between the eastern and western halves of this island city. On a larger scale, it represents the difference between Europe and the New World. In terms of locational astrology, Canada, like the US, is broad enough geographically to accomodate two, three, or four locality ascendants -depending on the individual map or chart. Crossing from one locality ascendant to the other highlights a different part of the chart. A similar effect can be had by traveling across one's city which is a scaled-down version of one's country. In my locality chart, for example, there are two main ascendants spanning the Canadian landmass. I live in the eastern half, but when I go to the West, an entirely different mood pervades my being setting up a different life situation. This may be partly due to the area's own astrological make-up, but also to the fact that I am now in an entirely new ascendant sector of my chart. This change in feeling or mood is also apparent on a city level when I move from one end to the other. I've experienced this in both Montreal and Vancouver. Both halves of both cities, by the way, display comparable characteristics or patterns of development. It is in the western side of either city is where I excel in the buisness sense(I always manage to get employed here), wheareas the eastern sector is where home and family life flourishes for me(but is very poor for employment). I also feel more mentally alert in the west than I do in the east. Evidently, there are astrological locality forces at work here, accurately reflecting the larger whole. If one's national locality map or scheme can be down-scaled to a city level, then it can be further scaled down to a home or personal level. Your locality field, in fact, begins with YOU, and can be projected to as many macro or micro levels as need be. Wheels within wheels. back to main |
