Planetary Blending

Planets in the same sign, element, or even gender work closely together, blending their natures, and should be interpreted together. Let's take someone born on January 1, 1950, at noon GMT, London, England. This individual will have the following planetary positions (degree positions are not necessary for this exercise)....

Ascendant in Aries
Midheaven in Capricorn
Moon in Gemini
Sun in Capricorn
Mercury in Capricorn
Venus in Aquarius
Mars in Libra
Jupiter in Aquarius
Saturn in Virgo
Uranus in Cancer
Neptune in Libra
Pluto in Leo

The first law of blending is GENDER(positive/negative, masculine/feminine, etc.). So let's separate the positions into two main camps or groups as follows...

1
AscAri, MooGem, VenAqu, MarLib, JupAqu, NepLib, PluLeo
2
MidCap, SunCap, MerCap, SatVir, UraCan

In group 1, Ascendant, Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto are in masculine signs and blend and work together to varying degrees as do Midheaven, Sun, Mercury, Saturn, and Uranus in feminine signs in group 2.

As the Ascendant and Midheaven are the two most identifying features in a chart, how the planets relate to them is very revealing. In this case, the appearance or temperament(Ascendant) is colored by the Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto natures, and the career or reputation (Midheaven) will be colored by the Sun, Mercury, Saturn, and Uranus natures.

The above is a little vague, however, so let's further refine the separation by ELEMENT, as shown below...

1
AscAri, PluLeo
MooGem, VenAqu, MarLib, JupAqu, NepLib,
2
UraCan
MidCap, SunCap, MerCap, SatVir

In group 1, the natures of the Ascendant and Pluto strongly color one another as both are in the fire element. This individual will be somewhat of a loner and relate very intensely with others. Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Neptune also strongly blend with or color one another all being in air signs. Neptune, for example, will tend to drain the energies of Mars, or conversely, Mars will energize the Neptunian imagination.

In group 2, Uranus stands alone, being the only planet in its particular element(water). Least integrated planets often stand out in the chart, basically acting alone, and retaining much of their purity. Midheaven, Sun, Mercury, and Saturn in earth signs all blend and work very closely. As the Midheaven is involved, this person will achieve a certain amount of public recognition or authority(Sun), be involved in communications(Mercury), and will be responsible and enduring(Saturn).

There is one final separation, by SIGN, as follows...

1
AscAri / PluLeo
MooGem / VenAqu-JupAqu / MarLib-NepLib,
2
UraCan
MidCap-SunCap-MerCap / SatVir

In group 1, the natures of Venus and Jupiter, followed by Mars and Neptune, are the most closely blended or integrated. They are "conjunct" by sign and should definitely be interpreted together. In group two, Midheaven, Sun, and Mercury blend natures completely and are interpreted as one.

There is also the question of compatible and incompatible blending of the planetary natures. A blending of Sun and Mars, for example, which will increase the energy and vigor, will be much more desirable than a blending of Sun and Saturn which will restrain or limit the creativity or expression. As another example, Sun-Neptune blendings always weaken the health or ego whereas Sun-Uranus always strengthen it.

Basically, the masculine planets -Sun, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, and Ascendant, blend best with each other, as do the feminine planets -Moon, Venus, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto, and Midheaven. Fire planet blendings -Sun, Mars, or Jupiter, are of course most potent or desirable, as are Earth planet blendings -Venus, Saturn, Midheaven?, Air planet blendings -Mercury, Uranus, Ascendant, and Water planet blendings -Moon, Neptune, Pluto.
