Siegfried and Roy are German American-magicians and entertainers who have performed in Las Vegas(mainly at the Miriam) for nearly fifty years untill a tragic incident ended their careers. The two met on a German ocean liner 1n 1959 where they began entertaining the passengers with their magic act. They were later led to Las Vegas where they signed a life-long contract and successfully performed over 5000 acts. On October 3, 2003, Roy, on his 49th birthday, sufferred a stroke and severe injuries in what is still a controversial incident. An apparent distraction from the crowd caused Montecore, their 600 pound Bengal tiger, to veer from his act causing Roy to interceed and fall and then be picked up by the neck by the tiger and dragged away. The two were quickly separated but Roy suffered severe blood loss and nearly died. While most reports say Roy was attacked, both Roy and Siegfried maintain that Montecore sensed Roy's stroke and tried to carry him off to safety as a mother would do to her cubs. Roy partly recovered from the ordeal and the duo performed for one last time in February of 2009.
